When thinking back to memorable events in one’s life, some seem to have a special place in the corners of our memories. One such event now holds that special place in mine. The event was the Dallas Blows Cancer Away Concert at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.
Allow me to list a few of the names present on stage that evening.
Dallas Symphony Orchestra
Dallas Symphony trumpet section
Stuart Stephensen
Russell Campbell
Kevin Finamore
Elmer Churampi
Allen Vizzutti
Jose Sibaja
The Canadian Brass Quintet
The One O’clock Lab Band from the University of North Texas
Alan Baylock
Jens Lindemann
Wycliffe Gordon (trombone)
Arturo Sandoval
Ronald Romm
To many, a few names stand out and to those who participated we give thanks for their contribution to such a worthy cause. As a former victim to this life-threatening illness, I especially want to thank you as well as those who dedicated time and energy to offer this wonderful evening of entertainment.
I have been asked what part of the program I enjoyed the most and to single out one performer would be like trying to pick out the best rose in a display of perfect roses. Every participant demonstrated more ability and musicianship than I will ever achieve. Each in his own way performed at the highest level of musicianship and professionalism.
When thinking back to the aforementioned question………
“What I enjoyed most of the evening was the time I was able to share with my beloved family that evening”.
Bruce, this is in response to your post on “A Night to Remember” — for some reason, this message box seems to be linked instead to your (also) excellent post “Features to consider when buying a trumpet.”
What a wonderful tribute — glad you are doing well now after your cancer “scare.” That is quite a line-up on stage — I would have been completely star-struck. Nice pic of you and the fam, too!
Thanks for the info and I will check on the issue.
It would be the same for you if the players were Charlie Byrd, Django Reinhardt and Chet Atkins on stage.
