You might think that statement is a little confusing but knowing how to do something is not necessarily the same as being able to do something without knowing how it is done.
Several readers have asked how they can arrange music for their ensemble even thou they have no knowledge of music theory or basic rules of harmony and voice leading.
For those interested in this process I will give some pointers on how this can be accomplished. Even without music theory, anyone can arrange music with the help of a simple yet powerful program available at no cost.
Our first lesson is simple.
Step 1-
Go to Finale | Music Notation Software That Lets You Create Your Way (finalemusic.com)
Step 2-
Click on Free Trial
Step 3-
Click on the appropriate system.
Step 4-
Click on Download button and follow the instructions until you have set up your free trial program of Finale.
Once your Finale is set up, open the following and download to your desktop…….Lesson #1
Step 5-
Go to this site..
Hymns (Sacred Hymns) in MIDI files (kunstderfuge.com)
and click on the first midi file marked
» MIDI | Amazing Grace (lyric)
Step 6
Click and drag the midi file to your new Finale program and drop it on the Finale graphic.
Click OK at the next prompt
This should open your first project which is similar to the PDF you have already opened.
Read and follow the instructions as printed on the second page of your PDF document. If you have any problem following the instructions, read through it again and hopefully you will have your first lesson accomplished. If, after your second attempt, you still have a problem, feel free to contact me at brucechidester@hotmail.com and enter in the subject box Lesson 1 question. The next lesson will be posted in a couple days which will show you how to separate each melodic line, assign instruments to each line, change keys with a jump modulation and add notes where needed.
Best of luck.
