Events in our lives can be attributed to many influences. Some are accidental, some are planned and some just happen for no reason at all. In this post, I would like to describe a very unusual situation that even I can not understand. After giving you a short description of this situation, I ask you to add your thoughts as to why this could happen.
“And now for the rest of the story”.
A very good friend of mine and I met at a rehearsal shortly after my wife and I relocated from Cedar Falls, Iowa to Branson, Missouri. His name is Kent Turner, a very successful property developer in Branson. We seemed to hit it off from the start as both he and I had the same interests in playing trumpet. We shared rehearsal time in the College of the Ozarks concert band helping our mutual friend in his ensemble. As time past we continued to perform together in local big bands, trumpet ensembles and shared trumpet chairs in combos in Branson. As we continued to rehearse and perform together we became even closer friends and when I decided to form a Dixieland band, Kent was my first choice for the part. That ensemble performed regularly at a local establishment and as we played each week, it became apparent that not only did we have the same playing style (I was playing Trombone at the time), our selection of notes were the same. Exactly the same. When Kent played lead, I played the same notes. When he changed to harmonic background notes, I played the same notes. We even took breaths and phrased at the same time. When we switch back and forth on melody we were in unison as were the times we played background figures. No matter what we did, we ended up playing in unison octaves. That was spooky. It was if we were connected to the same brain.
On our return trip to Texas, my wife and I made a list of similarities between Kent and myself. After compiling these similarities, it became obvious that something was very strange and that is why I decided to post this information and ask my readers to help with this interesting project listed below.
